For the last year-and-a-bit, it's been an entertaining and occasionally enlightening exercise in creating a narrative that's true to the spirit of the games' source material, although much of the time it felt like a struggle just to make sure that the beat of the chapter wouldn't get lost. I thought that a bit more visual continuity would've helped, but it's a testament to the kind of storytelling that Rean Taniguchi is putting together that I'm still thinking about that day when I last put the game down. On the plus side, the latest edition improves upon the adventure in a number of ways. The UI has been streamlined to the point where you don't have to do anything much more than set up how you'd like it to be before you start playing. You can assign each character their own set of actions to access, making it very easy to find things or skip them depending on the situation. You can also set a pre-prepared sound track to play at all times. The new chapters are a lot of fun, mixing things up a bit to make the gameplay a bit more interesting. One in particular, with a plot twist, had me wanting to see what happens next. That's the thing about the games themselves; they have the potential to get under your skin if you let them.
